In February 2015, I journeyed to New York City to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs play their final game at the historic
Nassau Coliseum against the New York Islanders. With only one day left in the city before heading home, I aimed to make
the most of my time.
That day, temperatures hovered in the single digits, creating a frigid but unforgettable adventure. From braving the
icy winds aboard the Staten Island Ferry to navigating the subway system and indulging at a renowned Jewish deli,
I barely scratched the surface of all the places I wanted to see. However, I made it a priority to reach Brooklyn
in time for sunset over lower Manhattan and the East River. Wandering along the shoreline, I discovered these
weathered docks where hundreds of seagulls perched in peaceful stillness, framing the transition into twilight for the
city that never sleeps.
