I hadn't stepped foot in Detroit in nearly 27 years, but this time, it was for something special—catching my hockey team's final game at Joe Louis
Arena against the Detroit Red Wings. If you've read any of my travel stories, you know that hockey games across various cities are a recurring theme in my adventures.
The day after the game, on the last leg of my trip, I crossed the Ambassador Bridge into Canada with the familiar greeting of "Welcome to Canada, eh?" After
a quick jaunt, I found a perfect spot along the Detroit River to watch the sunrise. The soft pastel hues painted across the sky were perfectly mirrored in the
iconic skyline of Detroit, framed by its gothic-inspired architecture. It was one of those moments where time stands still, and I immediately fell in love with
the scene before me.
After packing up my gear, I headed toward the Windsor Tunnel to return to the U.S. Crossing into Canada is always a breeze, but coming back into the States?
That's a different story. I've crossed the border over a dozen times, and without fail, re-entry is always a challenge. Sure enough, 15 minutes and a quick rental
car disassembly later, I was back on my way.
The Leafs won, I caught a minor league playoff game with a friend in London, captured this unforgettable photo, and even shared a laugh with the border agent.
This weekend trip had everything—a few unexpected moments, great memories, and a sense of adventure I won't soon forget.
