Along the coastline of the Pacific Northwest, sea stacks rise like silent guardians, standing as imposing fortresses against the relentless ocean.
I hiked out here for sunset, planning to wait a few hours for the moon to rise from the east, casting its light over the cliffs while stars filled the
sky behind them. I can honestly say you haven't truly lived until you've sat perched on a narrow cliff, a hundred feet above the crashing waves, for hours.
These sea stacks brought many thoughts to mind—scenes from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, where Harry and Dumbledore visit cliffs to destroy a
horcrux, or the final scene of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, where Luke is shown living as a hermit on a cliffside island. But I realized those references
might not connect, so I decided on Guardian of the Pacific instead.
