On the afternoon of April 26th, 2013, central and western Oklahoma was under a slight risk for thunderstorms. After picking up my girlfriend from work, we raced west toward northwestern Oklahoma as storms began to fire. By the time we reached the town of Thomas, a supercell had become outflow dominant, showing hints of impressive structure above.

From there, we turned south onto Hwy 54 and headed to Weatherford, where I managed to get ahead of the advancing shelf cloud. Seeing it fully revealed for the first time, I was in awe—this was easily one of the most spectacular cloud structures I'd ever witnessed. I found an open field near a church I had attended over a decade earlier when I lived in Weatherford. Familiarity with the area helped me secure a perfect vantage point to capture this stunning shelf cloud as it raced southward.

This day easily ranks as my top storm structure day of 2013, as this was just one of the incredible formations I encountered.
