This day will forever stand out as one of my most thrilling and rewarding storm chases. The Storm Prediction Center had
issued a slight risk for much of western Kansas, and my instincts told me this would be a day of photogenic supercells.
My journey began near Ness City, where a high-precipitation (HP) supercell unleashed its power, eventually kicking up a
dust storm near Jetmore. As sunset approached, I found myself captivated by a vibrant supercell, glowing in fiery hues
before it transitioned into a dramatic outflow-dominant storm.
What followed was pure adrenaline—a combination shelf cloud, dust storm, and landspouts chasing me south into Dodge City.
From there, I ventured east into Greensburg, a town nearly erased by an EF-5 tornado in 2007. Amidst the echoes of resilience,
I captured striking lightning shots before heading north to a dying supercell.
What awaited me there was an unexpected gift. The full moon illuminated the storm's structure, blending its ethereal light
with frequent cloud-to-ground lightning strikes. The storm crawled across a canvas of stars, creating an unforgettable scene.
This image remains one of my personal favorites, a perfect blend of chaos and celestial beauty.
