In my opinion, Oklahoma often lacks truly "breathtaking" scenery—until you visit the Wichita Mountains. The moment you arrive, that perception completely changes as the unparalleled beauty of the region unfolds before you.

The Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is home to free-roaming bison, elk, and lively prairie dog towns. I spent about ten minutes watching this particular prairie dog, snapping over a hundred photos, until it finally had enough of the attention and "shied" away from the camera.
